WWE Superstar Teases Big Character Change After SmackDown

GUNTHER revitalized the WWE Intercontinental Championship by delivering classic performances against top competitors such as Sheamus and Ricochet. Through his hard-fought battles, he restored the prestige of this coveted title and solidified his place in WWE history. That being said, now it seems a Smackdown superstar, who was in contention for GUNTHER’s title, has teased a huge character change.

As seen on last night’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, four talented Superstars – Rey Mysterio, Madcap Moss, Karrion Kross, and Santos Escobar – went head-to-head in a fatal-four way match with the winner becoming the next challenger for the Intercontinental Championship held by GUNTHER. It was Madcap Moss who won the match in the end.

After the show went off the air, WWE released a backstage interaction between Santos Escobar and Rey Mysterio online. In the video, Escobar, who is typically portrayed as a heel, was seen in a more respectful and sincere demeanor. He paid homage to Mysterio and spoke of his admiration for the legendary wrestler, recounting how he watched Mysterio compete alongside his father. Despite initially seeking to surpass Mysterio’s legacy, Escobar expressed that after sharing the ring with him, he has only gained a greater respect for the veteran Superstar.

In a touching moment, Escobar presented Mysterio with his mask, and in turn, Mysterio returned the gesture. The two men then embraced, symbolizing the mutual respect and admiration they have for each other. It is unclear at this time if this marks the beginning of a face-turn for Escobar, but it certainly gave fans a glimpse into the genuine emotions that exist between these two legendary performers.

For a long time now, WWE has been trying to create the next Rey Mysterio, which is nothing new. Regardless, we will have to wait and see whether WWE will go all in on Santos Escobar becoming a babyface.
