Eminem’s contributions to the world of hip-hop will never be forgotten as his influence is etched deep in the mind of fans and peers alike. Artists such as Skylar Grey still get starstruck working with him even now. Eminem’s beef with Moby resulted in the latter framing up a disturbing photo that Eminem had drawn for him.
Slim Shady had rough beginnings as he started dirt poor, living in a trailer park. His growth continues to be a source of inspiration to fans and peers alike, all over the world.
Not only that, but even Snoop Dogg warned other rappers who dared to diss Eminem of the consequences. One of the most high-profile inter-genre disputes of the 2000s was the feud between Eminem and Moby. However, according to Moby, there were more intricate dynamics at play than previously understood.
While speaking to NME magazine, Moby was asked if “sex, drugs and rock and roll” really kill brain cells enough to wipe out the memories. During the discussion, he talked about his beef with Eminem, revealing that he had a portrait of Eminem strangling him, which Eminem had drawn for him, framed.
“Yeah. I kept the picture — I had it framed! He handed me a drawing of him strangling me, and it was a really great illustration! What was endearing was that on the back-side of the paper, he had started drawing it then decided it wasn’t good enough. So he had a first draft on one side and then the fully-executed version on the other. For the longest time, no matter where I went, someone would yell out of a car window: ‘Nobody listen to techno!’. So I’d like to thank Marshall for introducing me to his legion of 13-year-old, future-Trump-supporting fans. None of these people were running out to listen to my music, so it did in a negative way introduce me to a weird demographic of right-wing Americans who otherwise I would probably have had no contact with.”
It appears that Moby still harbors resentment and is justifying his animosity by making a very bizarre generalization about Eminem’s fanbase. Regardless, some feuds will remain bitter and that is just how things are sometimes.
