There is no doubt that Hulk Hogan is one of the most well-known pro wrestlers in the world of professional wrestling, with his influence in the business never being understated. However, his troubled past concerning racism has ultimately led to his downfall. His friendship/feud with Randy Savage was a big deal and it seems Savage genuinely thought Hogan was trying to steal Miss Elizabeth from him.
Hulk Hogan was at the peak of his popularity in the late 80s and early 90s, when he was also paired up with Randy Savage to form The Mega Powers. The two babyfaces were an instant hit with fans, but they did not last long.
At WrestleMania 5 in 1989, the main event featured a showdown between two former tag team partners of the Mega Powers, namely Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan. The storyline leading up to this match primarily focused on Savage’s character becoming increasingly envious of Hogan due to a fabricated relationship between Hogan and Savage’s wife at the time, Miss Elizabeth, within the wrestling storyline.
While speaking on Story Time with Dutch Mantell, pro wrestling legend Dutch Mantell talked bout Hogan and Savage’s feud. Mantell stated that he believes Savage genuinely thought Hogan was trying to steal Miss Elizabeth from him.
“I think some of that stuff you saw on TV, where he accused Hogan of having eyes for Elizabeth, had a little bit of truth to it in Randy’s head,” Mantell said. “I don’t think Hogan ever looked at her like he would like to take her away from Randy or do something with her away from Randy, but Randy was very, very protective of that woman.”
Randy Savage even gave Hulk Hogan his infamous black eye at WrestleMania IX. Savage and Miss Elizabeth would eventually divorce as well, which ended up upsetting many people.
