Roman Reigns is on the road to WWE WrestleMania as the company’s Undisputed Universal Champion. He ran roughshod over the entire roster for years before that, and saw a ton of success. Some might even say he is comparable to the greatest in any sport at this point.
While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Cody Rhodes was asked where he thinks Reigns stacks up in the GOAT conversation. He ranked Roman Reigns right up there with King James himself, remarking how the Head of the Table is the LeBron James of this generation.
“I think he is the LeBron James of our generation and when I say, everyone harkens back to MJ, it’s the same with sports entertainment when you get the Hogans and The Rocks and the Steve Austins and Ric Flairs. If you really look at what Roman has been doing for three years, he is a Bruno Sammartino-level player.
He has made the opportunity to dethrone him the biggest thing since someone trying to end the streak at WrestleMania. I think he’s definitely in the discussion for the flat out GOAT. You can make all sorts of parameters, qualifiers, and categories for the GOAT in our world, but I think Roman is up there simply put the GOAT for what he’s done over the course of 800-something days leading the charge as the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion.”
Some would argue that LeBron James is still the LeBron James of this generation, but in pro wrestling, Roman Reigns certainly stands head’s and shoulders above the rest. We will have to see how the years remember the two in retrospect.
Cody Rhodes is set to take on Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 for the Undisputed Universal Title. A lot of things could happen in the meantime, but it’s nice to see The American Nightmare pay respect to the Tribal Chief on the road to WrestleMania.
