Tekashi 6ix9ine is a highly polarizing and controversial figure in the hip-hop industry. His reputation is characterized by numerous public feuds with other artists, as well as various criminal charges that he has faced. While he has gained notoriety for his music, his public persona and legal troubles have left a divisive impression on many in the public eye. In fact, the Cuban government ended up turning off the internet after his visit.
The rapper loves to live a lavish life and show off his riches. This is despite the fact that many fans wonder just how he makes so much money in the first place. His music does not sell all that well for him to make that much money either.
During a recent visit to Cuba, 6ix9ine caused so much chaos that the Cuban government was forced to shut down the internet to control the situation. Reports suggest that officials took this step to prevent the spread of a video in which the rapper can be seen throwing money away. This controversy coincided with his announcement of new shows in Israel and a new Instagram account.
Ironically, his social media antics caused an uproar, with conflicting reports suggesting that he threw dollar bills to crowds either from his hotel window or his car. Regardless of the exact details, many people expressed outrage at his alleged display, including the Cuban government.
The Cuban government has criticized 6ix9ine for his behavior, describing it as “humiliating” and “shameful.” The viral video of him throwing money also highlighted the struggles and poverty experienced by many in the country, amplifying negative stereotypes. Although the rapper had initially posted videos of his visit, he later deleted them. AllHipHop reported that his actions caused the government to temporarily shut down internet services to prevent the video from spreading.
It’s worth noting that tourism is actually a prohibited industry in Cuba, and access for U.S. citizens is only possible through group travel as part of a “people-to-people” cultural or educational tour. As for 6ix9ine, he had posted a disclaimer regarding the cash he was seen throwing in a video on his Instagram Story a few days prior to the incident. In the post, the rapper claimed that the money he flaunted on Instagram was actually fake money and just props, writing “I ain’t got no money.”
