Vince McMahon ruled WWE with an iron fist as the Chairman of the company for decades, and every single creative decision went through him. Of course, there were some stars who had the right to do whatever they wanted. This includes Shawn Michaels, as he was able to do a lot of things in WWE that others could not.
Shawn Michaels is undoubtedly one of the best in-ring performers to have ever stepped foot inside a WWE ring. He was touted as Mr. WrestleMania, and he truly lived up to the moniker.
However, as many fans know by now, Shawn Michaels back in the 90s was a completely different person compared to who he is now. Michaels’ backstage antics and insufferable personality is well-documented by now.
That being said, Shawn Michaels pushed the envelope when it comes to his outrageous content as part of D-Generation X. While speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross noted that Shawn Michaels had a free ticket to do whatever he wanted in WWE.
“Well, Shawn Michaels had Vince’s [McMahon] ear, so Shawn had a free ticket to do pretty much anything he wanted because he was such a good salesman for his own stuff that he could convince you that [it] was a good idea,” JR explained. “But if anybody else on the roster had come to us with something along those same lines, it would have never made television. Shawn was a special case in that regard, and Vince let him roll with his instincts probably as much as anybody we know or could talk about.”
Triple H also once got into a legitimate fight with Shawn Michaels. Shawn Michaels is now working to improve NXT and he more than loves his current role in the company. That is all that matters to him in the end.
