Jay-Z is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential artists in the hip-hop industry. Jay is also interested in fields other than hip-hop, but his first love will always be music. That being said, he loves basketball as well and even paid tribute to James before the NBA All-Star game.
As previously reported, LeBron James ended up surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record for career points during The Los Angeles Lakers’ game against Oklahoma City Thunder, thereby making history.
In fact, Jay-Z was present courtside when the record-breaking accomplishment happened. Jay-Z honored LeBron James prior to the 2023 NBA All-Star Game, recognizing the incredible achievement of the Los Angeles Lakers icon surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. In a video that aired during the game on Sunday night in Salt Lake City, Utah, Jay-Z lauded James’ unparalleled excellence on the court.
“Being able to perform at a high level for a long period of time, that’s excellence,” Jay-Z said. “Long after you’re gone, people may look at your name and like, ‘That’s what greatness is. There’s not many you can compare LeBron to. A 19-time All-Star, a remarkable feat. The all-time leading scorer, all-time! I mean, what can you say? He’s been through many iterations of the game and in each era, he’s been the best. ‘The Chosen One’ and that’s it.”
Unfortunately, James sustained an injury during the All-Star Game when he attempted to block a shot early in the second quarter. He recorded 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting and four assists before leaving the game. While the extent of his injury is unclear, James reassured fans that it is not a cause for major concern, saying, “I’ll be fine. I don’t think it’s too much to worry about.”
The Lakers’ upcoming game is set for Thursday at the Crypto.com Arena against the Golden State Warriors. As of now, the team is currently ranked 13th in the Western Conference with a record of 27-32. We’ll have to see how they will fare in the game.
