Rihanna is still widely regarded as one of the music industry’s most accomplished vocalists. The music icon undeniably delivered a show-stopping performance as the headliner for this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. However, it appears that the performance has certainly triggered some of the audiences as they flooded the FCC with complaints, contending that her set was excessively focused on sexual themes.
According to TMZ, 103 complaints about Rihanna’s performance were made to the Federal Communications Commission by viewers who found it to be too graphic. People complained about the singer’s performance in general and claimed it was pornographic in nature, including the lyrics and choreography.
According to a complaint obtained by the outlet, a viewer stated, “This year the halftime show was so indecent I had to turn off the TV because of the pornographic content.” One person wrote that RiRi’s dancers were “patently offensive and completely inappropriate for children.”
Moreover, during the rare times when Rihanna danced, a complaint criticized her moves, alleging that, “She spread her ass cheeks at the crack. She rubbed her pants where her labia were three times.”
The 103 complaints were significantly less than the 1,300+ complaints received for the halftime performance by Jennifer Lopez and Shakira in 2020, and the 540,000+ complaints received for Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson’s infamous performance in 2004.
