Cain Velasquez made headlines for all the wrong reasons last year. He was charged with attempted murder after shooting the wrong person while trying to hunt down a man who allegedly molested a family member. It has been a while since Velasquez was out from prison and now he is back training at the American Kickboxing Academy.
In February of 2022, Cain Velasquez was arrested on charges of attempted murder after allegedly attacking Harry Goularte. Goularte was an employee at the daycare center that Velasquez’s four-year-old child attended and was accused of sexually assaulting the child, which reportedly led to Velasquez’s violent reaction.
However, Velasquez was released on bail in November 2022 after posting a hefty sum of one million dollars. Meanwhile, Goularte has been charged for the alleged sexual assault of the minor.
Velasquez, a notable member of the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) during his prime, has returned to the gym after his recent release from jail. Velasquez once trained alongside elite fighters such as Daniel Cormier, Luke Rockhold, and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
In a recent video uploaded to head coach Javier Mendez’s YouTube channel, Velasquez can be seen making his way back to AKA. Upon his arrival, the former champion shared some friendly banter with Mendez before getting to work with current Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov.
Cain Velasquez was arrested after being accused of firing his gun at a vehicle carrying Harry Goularte and his stepfather, Paul Bender. The incident resulted in non-fatal injuries to Bender. Velasquez was denied bail on multiple occasions before finally being released on bail for one million dollars in November 2022. As a condition of his release, Velasquez is required to wear a GPS tracker at all times.
