Drake is also one of the biggest boxing fans in all of hip-hop. The artist’s love for gambling is well-known in sports circles. With that being said, Drake recently placed a $400K bet on Jake Paul to knock out Tommy Fury at Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, and now Paul is quipping that his defeat to Fury was a manifestation of the infamous Drake curse.
After the match, Paul addressed Drake’s pretty large wager in his press conference. Fury ended up winning by a split decision (74-75, 76-73, 76-73) and blamed his loss on the “Started from the Bottom” hitmaker.
“F–k. This is Drake’s fault,” Paul exclaimed in a sarcastic tone. “Drake, bro, why did you do this to me?”
However, he then apologized to the Toronto rapper for disappointing him. “It’s my fault,” he admitted. “$400,000 is nothing to him. He has won a lot more money betting on me before. He’s probably about even now,” he continued.
Paul hinted at the possibility of a rematch with Fury, suggesting that he will redeem himself by securing a win. “Sorry, Drake. I’ll get that W in the rematch,” he assured him. Paul stated his interest in having a rematch in his post-fight comments. “All respect to Tommy, he won,” he began.
“Don’t judge me by my wins, judge me by my losses. We deserve that rematch. I don’t know that I agree [with the scorecards]. I got a 10-8 round twice. … So, this is definitely a humbling experience. I’ll take it on the chin and we can run it back.”
However, it’s worth noting that Paul’s fight agreement included a clause for a rematch, giving him the option to pursue it. Stay tuned to Thirsty For News to get more updates.
