Jon Jones is widely regarded as one of the all-time greats in the world of mixed martial arts, with a string of impressive victories to his name during his UFC career. After taking some time away from the octagon, Jones announced his intention to return to fighting in 2021, with his sights set on a specific opponent for his comeback bout. In fact, his upcoming fight might end up hurting AEW’s Revolution pay-per-view.
In addition to his desire to return to the octagon, Jon Jones has been vocal about his desire to receive appropriate compensation for his fights. His efforts to secure the pay he believes he deserves have been ongoing, and were a factor in the delays that prevented his return to the UFC last year.
However, fans can now look forward to seeing Jones in action once again, as he is set to take on Ciryl Gane for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 285 in March. This fight is sure to be a major event in the world of mixed martial arts, and the news that Jones has signed an eight-fight deal with the UFC only adds to the excitement surrounding his comeback.
The fight will take place on March 4th, this Saturday, which is one day after AEW’s Revolution pay-per-view. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Jon Jones’ UFC 285 fight might end up hurting AEW Revolution.
It’s not head-to-head, but it is after Jon Jones’ fight. It’s not a giant crossover, but it is a crossover. It’s better than going that night for sure, but it’s sure that the Jones fight will hurt AEW to a small extent on pay-per-view. When WWE used to do pay-per-views after UFC, I remember they were usually down about 10-15%, but the crossover is not as big now. 5% or more yes, I think it will probably cost them 5% or more.
Jones teased MMA fans about a move to heavyweight for over ten years, and now that will finally become a reality. We will have to wait and see whether Jon Jones will end up defeating Gane to become the new UFC Heavyweight Champion in March.
