Ronda Rousey made a highly anticipated return to WWE during the 2021 Royal Rumble and went on to become a two-time SmackDown Women’s Champion. However, it didn’t take long for some fans to turn against her once again, as they were dissatisfied with the way WWE booked her character. Despite her immense popularity in the world of combat sports, Rousey’s run in WWE has been met with mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. That being said, it seems WWE has drastically changed up WrestleMania 39 plans for Rousey.

Interestingly enough, Ronda Rousey previously made it clear that she is no longer interested in pursuing Charlotte Flair and wants to dominate the tag team division instead. Afterwards, Rousey has been paired up with Shayna Baszler.

According to WrestlingNews.co, in the weeks leading up to late November and early December, WWE had plans for Ronda Rousey to defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley.

However, at some point, plans changed, and on the December 30th episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, Charlotte Flair made a surprise return and defeated Rousey for the title. Flair has revealed that she was only informed of this last-minute decision on the day of the show, indicating the sudden and unexpected nature of the outcome.

It has become evident that Ronda Rousey’s plans have shifted, as she and Shayna Baszler are now slated to compete for the Women’s Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania. However, details regarding the nature of the match remain unclear, as it is unknown whether the match will be a standard tag team match against current champions Lita and Becky Lynch or if additional teams will be involved.

It was reported that the reason why Rousey is not in a singles match at WrestleMania is because she has been pushing to team with Baszler, thereby pushing for a Women’s Tag Team Champions. It was further added that many in WWE are under the impression that  Rousey and Baszler will be getting a tag title run that will last through the spring and summer.

“Ronda is pushing for the tag titles. That’s the match that she wants and whatever she wants she gets.”

We will have to wait and see when Ronda Rousey will get her shot at the Women’s Tag Team Championships. However, it is clear that many fans are relieved that she is no longer in the main event title picture, as her previous run was met with mixed reactions from the WWE Universe.

While Rousey’s future in the industry remains set in stone at the moment, there is no doubt that her impact on women’s wrestling has been significant, and her presence on WWE programming will be missed by many.
