‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin remains one of the most iconic Superstars in WWE history. His match at WrestleMania 38 last year surpassed all expectations and because of this, fans wondered if he would compete in another match this year. That may no longer be happening anymore, especially due to the fact that he turned down facing Brock Lesnar at the Show of Shows.
Steve Austin had a tremendous match against Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38. In the past few months, Steve Austin could be seen training very hard at the gym, getting into in-ring shape.
Due to this, fans were certain that they would get to see The Texas Rattlesnake in the ring once again on April 1st and 2nd. Unfortunately, the chances of that are almost zero now.
Brock Lesnar’s immense star power in the world of combat sports as well as pro wrestling has made many top pro wrestlers want to duke it out with him. That being said, Stone Cold Steve Austin declined the opportunity to battle Lesnar.
Back in 2002, during an episode of RAW, Austin decided to not face “The Next Big Thing,” which led to his departure from the company. Later, at WrestleMania 39, Austin once again declined to go head-to-head with Lesnar, cementing his decision to stay away from the ring.
Stone Cold Steve Austin was not really thrilled the WWE proposed that he face off against the up-and-coming Brock Lesnar during the King of the Ring tournament in 2002. Austin believed that such a high-profile match deserved proper buildup and felt insulted that he was expected to compete on RAW and lose to a rookie without any storyline. The idea of putting Lesnar over in this manner did not sit well with Austin, and he ultimately refused to participate.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Stone Cold was offered a chance to face The Beast Incarnate at Wrestlemania 39. However, Steve Austin turned down that match.
”As noted, there was an attempt for a Lesnar vs. Steve Austin match, as the two have never faced off. While there may have been mentions of Austin with Roman Reigns at one point, it was never anywhere near serious. Those close to Austin said it was Lesnar who he was approached about. Austin turned that down.”
While fans may have been hoping for a Steve Austin comeback at WrestleMania, it appears that it won’t be happening anytime soon. Austin’s refusal to face Brock Lesnar in the past indicates that he may be content with staying away from the ring and focusing on other endeavors. Nonetheless, Austin remains a beloved and influential figure in the world of professional wrestling, and his legacy will continue to inspire fans and wrestlers alike for years to come.
