Sometimes, playing superheroes isn’t what actors enjoy, and it seems Mark Ruffalo is no exception. The actor has no plans to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Bruce Banner or The Incredible Hulk.

Mark Ruffalo has played both Bruce Banner and the Hulk in several MCU projects, including his recent appearance in Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Fans were introduced to Bruce’s cousin Jennifer Walters, who takes on the mantle of She-Hulk in that series. After Avengers: Age of Ultron, She-Hulk shocked fans by unveiling that the Hulk has a son named Skaar from Sakaar, the planet where the Hulk spent a short while.

Hulk’s future is uncertain right now. According to Inside The Magic, Ruffalo clarified that his role in She-Hulk was to “pass the torch” for the younger hero to eventually take on his role, but this does not mean that Hulk will never return in any way. The Hulk can easily make a big comeback in upcoming projects, especially with two more Avengers movies on the horizon.

Sadly, one version of the Hulk won’t be making a comeback. There won’t be a follow-up from Eric Bana, who starred in Ang Lee’s Hulk. Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue, but Avengers: Secret Wars will be a film dedicated to various variations. Special cameos will undoubtedly occur as the Multiverse Saga comes to an end.

Bana’s portrayal of the Hulk wasn’t particularly beloved by fans as the film took a more serious tone towards its source material and put more emphasis on developing dynamic relationships than on the comics. Bana never returned for a sequel as a result of this not being well received by the audience and this contributed to the failure of the film.

Marvel lacked the necessary tools for making the Hulk appear impressive to viewers, so the movie’s poor CGI was yet another questionable aspect.

“I think we did some motion capture stuff, but they realized that it wasn’t really helping them given the technology at that time. It was so raw back then, because it was still so early for all that stuff. So I didn’t really have too much to do in terms of playing the big guy.”

While Bana won’t be appearing again, that doesn’t necessarily prevent other actors who played the Hulk from making a cameo. It’s possible that Edward Norton will put aside his differences with Marvel Studios and make a fun cameo in the MCU that makes fun of the MCU’s inclusion of his one movie, or Marvel may choose to concentrate on other Avengers for additional cameos.

However, the MCU continues to expand and evolve. Therefore, there are countless other superheroes and storylines waiting to be brought to the big screen. Keep an eye on Thirsty to get the latest updates regarding the Marvel Universe.
