Last year’s Oscar Awards ceremony left a lasting impression for all the wrong reasons, as it was ruined by an unexpected incident involving Will Smith and Chris Rock. Following a joke about Smith’s spouse Jada Pinkett Smith, he shockingly slapped Rock, leaving everyone stunned. Now it seems Rock has allegedly been obsessed with Jada Pinkett Smith for almost three decades.
Netflix recently premiered a groundbreaking live stand-up comedy special featuring Chris Rock, performed to a sold-out audience at the Hippodrome Theater in Baltimore. During the special, he finally addressed the slap heard across the world and dropped the hammer on Will Smith.
Chris Rock’s recent stand-up show got a very mixed response, with some criticism directed towards him for his remarks. His comments regarding Meghan Markle’s accusations of racism against the Royal Family have been seen as “punching down on Black women,” something that ended up backfiring in a big way.
On top of that, Rock’s jokes about Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have also drawn attention, with one joke referencing Smith’s role in the film “Concussion” and his alleged involvement in giving Rock a concussion.
According to PEOPLE, it was reported that contrary to Chris Rock’s recent joke about Jada Pinkett Smith asking him not to host the Oscars, those close to the actress have revealed that this never happened.
In fact, Pinkett Smith had publicly expressed her support for Rock’s hosting gig in a Facebook post at the time. The same sources also expressed shock at Rock’s repeated use of the word “b****” when referring to Pinkett Smith.
[He] is obsessed with her and that’s been going on for almost 30 years. Look where he chose to film his Netflix special. Her hometown. Obsessed. Jada has had no part in this other than being heckled.Back in 2016, she helped start a movement with the Academy Awards by questioning why there are so few Black members, and Chris took it to this?”
As for his alleged obsession with Jada Pinkett Smith, it remains to be seen how this will play out, but Pinkett Smith herself seems to be focused on her own endeavors. Do you think Chris Rock’s jokes were inappropriate or was he just doing what comedians do? Sound off in the comments!
