In a surprising turn of events, it was announced last month that the UFC had released Darren Till from his contract despite the fact that he still had several fights remaining. While some fans were shocked by the decision, others understood the reasoning behind it, considering the 30-year-old’s recent performances despite having a good relationship with the UFC’s management. Now it seems Dana White has finally commented on Till’s UFC exit.
When considering Darren Till’s recent record, his release from the UFC may not come as a complete surprise. Over the past six fights, he has only secured one win and suffered five losses, including three consecutive defeats.
His track record is further complicated by his frequent injuries, which have led to his withdrawal from five fights within the last two years alone.
It’s been a significant decline for the 30-year-old fighter since his days as a promising talent with a 16-0-1 record and a four-fight win streak in the UFC, and his recent performances may have played a role in the UFC’s decision to release him from his contract.
While speaking during a recent press conference, UFC President Dana White was asked about Darren Till’s exit from the UFC. White confirmed that Till had asked for his release and that Till just felt like he could not compete in the UFC.
“Like Darren Till said, we have an incredible relationship with him. We like him and respect him very much. He’s not the only guy that’s ever come to us and said they just can’t compete here anymore. He did ask for his release and we did release him.
I don’t know what his plans are for outside the UFC, but he’s a guy we’ve had a relationship with and we really like him… If he gets to the level where he thinks he’s ready to come back to the UFC, we’d probaby do it.”
According to Till, he asked the UFC to release him from his current contract because he has to “just 2 sort some other s*** for the foreseeable” and has plans to return. We will have to wait and see when he will return to the company.
