John Cena is a 16-time World Champion and is viewed as one of the true GOATs of professional wrestling now. He returned on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW and immediately set up a huge WrestleMania 39 match. In fact, some believe that he needed to be built up for the match.
On the latest episode of WWE RAW, John Cena made a highly-anticipated comeback and was visibly emotional upon hearing the cheers from the live crowd. He got into a heated promo with Austin Theory and eventually agreed to face him in a blockbuster match at WrestleMania 39.
It was largely a one-sided massacre, as John Cena verbally destroyed Austin Theory in the promo and ended up setting up their match at the Show of Shows. Needless to say, fans loved every bit of it.
While speaking on The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, WWE Hall Of Famer Teddy Long talked about John Cena obliterating Austin Theory on the mic and potentially burying him. Long stated that he believes John Cena needed to be built up for the match, so the promo was necessary.
Here’s the deal. John Cena; I don’t know if he’s a full-time guy or not. But we don’t see him every Monday night. So Cena is going into WrestleMania. You’ve not been able to see John Cena every Monday night; so you gotta build him back up and get him ready for WrestleMania. So that’s what I have seen there, with just a big build-up for John Cena to get him ready for WrestleMania.
As previously reported, John Cena produced the aforementioned segment himself, as the company trusted him to properly produce the whole segment.
We will have to wait and see how WWE will book Cena and Theory’s feud in the coming weeks. After all, fans are looking forward to seeing Cena compete at the Grandest Stage Of Them All.
