Vince McMahon returned to WWE earlier this year and then became a member of the Board Of Directors. He then became the Executive Chairman of the company and this infuriated fans to no end. That being said, WWE still makes a lot of money thanks to their numerous television deals, including FOX. In fact, the CEO of FOX also commented on WWE getting sold.
Friday Night Smackdown moved to FOX back in 2019 when the two parties struck a five-year deal that will last until 2024. While Smackdown has consistently managed to maintain a decent viewership number, the deal has not been a good one for FOX.
Mr. McMahon’s return to the Board of Directors was perceived as a hostile takeover, as he demonstrated a strong resolve to regain control of WWE. This move faced significant opposition, but despite the adverse reactions, McMahon was appointed as the Executive Chairman of WWE. This came after Stephanie McMahon’s resignation, as Nick Khan remains the sole CEO.
Speculation surrounding the sale of the company has simmered to a lull in recent weeks after the initial surge of interest in potential buyers. That being said, more people are still speculating about what will become of WWE.
While speaking at a Morgan Stanley investor conference on Thursday, FOX CEO Lachlan Murdoch talked about WWE. Murdoch didn’t indicate that FOX was in the running to actually purchase WWE. Instead, Murdoch stated that he hopes if they do sell then they find a good partner.
‘If they ultimately sell the business, I hope the acquirer’ is as good a partner. ‘Ready to engage with them’ on rights ‘ when they ask, when they are ready’
Vince McMahon also increased in rank in the list of the world’s richest billionaires after his return. That being said, McMahon is also facing lawsuits following his WWE return. We’ll have to see whether McMahon will end up selling WWE.
