Michael Jackson is called the ‘King Of Pop’ due to his insane levels of accomplishments. There aren’t many artists in the world who can go toe to toe with Jackson when it comes to sales, impact on culture, and other records. However, Abel a.k.a The Weeknd has tied Michael for a certain record.
The Weeknd has tied Michael Jackson’s record for the most No. 1 singles from three distinct albums on Billboard. According to Billboard, Michael Jackson had multiple No. 1 successes with his albums Off The Wall in 1979, Thriller in 1982, and Bad in 1987. The Weeknd now has three No. 1 singles each from Beauty Behind The Madness, Starboy, and After Hours.
The Weeknd earned his seventh No. 1 on Monday. It all happened after his single ‘Die For You” with Ariana Grande gained #1 status on the Hot 100 chart. The song is featured on The Weeknd’s album, Starboy.
Abel took to Instagram to share this amazing feat of his by captioning the post a star emoji. However, the new feat is far from his first historic Billboard accomplishment. With the release of Dawn FM, he earned 24 songs on the Global 200 chart, six of them coming from the album.
Songs like “Sacrifice,” “Take My Breath,” “Gasoline,” “Out of Time,” as well as “Is There Someone Else?” and “How Do I Make You Love Me?.” are among the ones featured in the Global 200. This had never been done before by a male artist. Nonetheless, Drake and Kanye West have both come very close, with 23 and 22, respectively.
The Weeknd has also broken the all-time record for most monthly global listeners among all artists on Spotify. One of the biggest music producers, Timbaland even called Abel the new Michael Jackson. With feats like these under his belt, it’s natural that people will praise him tons.
