Vince McMahon has garnered a substantial amount of media attention over the past year due to his involvement in a highly publicized pay-for-silence scandal that was closely watched by the professional wrestling world. Despite the intense scrutiny, he was able to maintain his position as the majority shareholder and Executive Chairman of WWE, giving him immense sway over the future of the company. While talks of WWE being sold continue to dominate the news, it seems John Cena would rather not talk about it at all.
Vince McMahon’s reappearance on the Board of Directors was met with widespread criticism and seen as a combative effort to reclaim control of WWE. Despite the obstacles, he was eventually named Executive Chairman after Stephanie McMahon’s resignation, with Nick Khan retaining the position of CEO.
Vince McMahon’s comeback was largely so that he could set up WWE for a potential sale, something that has been a huge topic of discussion for numerous years in the pro wrestling world. Many huge buyers are also said to be up for consideration.
While speaking to The Associated Press, John Cena was asked about the possibility of WWE being sold. Cena stated that it’s beyond his level of authority and he isn’t privy to any information on the matter. He emphasized that McMahon’s business affairs are his own and any information they share between them remains confidential.
That’s way above my paygrade. I just don’t know what’s going on with that. I love Vince McMahon. He’s everything you could want in a great friend, business partner, father, mentor. I love the man. But his business dealings are his business and what he shares with me, that’s between us. But I don’t know what’s going on with the corporate structure in the WWE or the creative direction of the WWE.
There are still quite a few potential buyers for WWE, which includes even Tony Khan and his father Shahid Khan. Even Saudi Arabia is currently in the mix to purchase the company, but nothing is certain just yet.
