Lil Nas X recently issued an apology to the trans community after facing criticism for a now-deleted tweet that was seen as “mocking” transitioning.
In the tweet, Lil Nas X posted a photo of influencer Glow Princess and wrote, “the surgery was a success 💕,” which was interpreted by many as a joke at the expense of the trans community.
After receiving backlash for the tweet, Lil Nas X initially fired back at his critics, saying, “I’m literally just saying she looks like me y’all cannot be f—kin serious.” When another fan questioned why he mentioned surgery, the rapper replied, “because she has titties? are u dense?”
However, after taking some time to reflect, Lil Nas X issued an apology to the trans community on Twitter, admitting that he had “handled that situation with anger instead of considering why it was not cool.”
“Apologies to the trans community,” he wrote. “Much love to you guys. Sorry.”
The controversy surrounding Lil Nas X’s tweet comes at a time when the trans community is facing increased discrimination and violence. In recent years, numerous states have passed anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation, including bills that seek to restrict access to healthcare for trans individuals and ban trans athletes from participating in sports.
Many of Lil Nas X’s followers called out the rapper for making the trans community the “punchline of a joke” in light of these ongoing issues.
