Ed Sheeran has established himself as one of the most popular musicians in the modern era thanks to massive hits such as Shape Of You, Thinking Out Loud and more. The music sensation has also accomplished a lot outside the music industry. That being said, he has no intention of ever doing drugs for a good reason.
Ed Sheeran has made a vow to steer clear of drugs after losing his close friend Jamal Edwards. Edwards, who passed away in February 2022 at the age of 31, died due to a cardiac arrest caused by drug and alcohol addiction. The singer believes that indulging in drugs again would be “disrespectful” to his late friend’s memory and has recently paid tribute to him with a musical dedication.
Sheeran plans to release a new album on May 5, inspired by the challenges he faced last year. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Sheeran discussed how he is staying away from drugs in the wake of Edwards’ death. He said that it would be disrespectful to his late friend’s memory to go near drugs again after how he passed away.
“I would never, ever, ever touch anything again because that’s how Jamal died. And that’s just disrespectful to his memory to even, like, go near,” Sheeran said about his friend, who supported him while he was trying to find a footing in the music industry.”
The singer also revealed that he is dedicating his upcoming single, “Eyes Closed,” to Edwards. Sheeran paid tribute to his late friend earlier this year with a touching freestyle performance at his favorite club stadium, Stamford Bridge, Chelsea FC.
Edwards was a big supporter of Sheeran while he was trying to establish himself in the music industry. Sheeran’s vow to steer clear of drugs and his tribute to his late friend show how much he valued Edwards’ friendship and the impact that his death has had on him. Fans will certainly appreciate Ed Sheeran for taking a stand against drugs and that’s all that matters.
