Backstreet Boys singer AJ Mclean began dating Rochelle McLean (née Karadis). The singer got down on one knee during a trip to Las Vegas after dating for ten months. In December 2011, the couple tied the knot in Beverly Hills in a gothic-themed ceremony. Unfortunately, the couple is now going through a rough patch and has decided to ‘temporarily’ split.
The estranged couple recently appeared in an interview with Us Weekly where they announced that they have decided to temporarily separate to work on themselves and their marriage. They also said that they hope their decision to split up would not last forever.
“Marriage is hard, but worth it. We have mutually decided to separate temporarily to work on ourselves, and on our marriage with the hope of building a stronger future.
The plan is to come back together and continue to nurture our love for one another, and our family. We ask for respect and privacy at this time. Separation is hard enough without the commentary, please be kind and remember there are children involved.”
McLean discussed his relationship with his then-wife in a blog post for Us while taking part in the ABC dance competition, referring to her as his “rock.” He expressed that she deserves all the awards for what she does daily.
“As I said, on the show, she’s my superhero. She has been through hell and back with me. If there was an award for everything that she does on the daily, she deserves them all.
The greatest reward that I get from her on the daily is just a constant affirmation of love. She’s always there for me, it doesn’t matter what it is. She’s very supportive. She’s a great listener. We have amazing conversations — sometimes until the wee hours of the morning.”
