Tim Allen, star of the hit sitcom “Home Improvement,” has reportedly distanced himself from his former TV son, Zachery Ty Bryan, who played Brad Taylor on the show. Bryan has faced legal troubles, including arrests related to domestic disputes with his ex-fiancée.
According to The National Enquirer, Allen wants nothing to do with Bryan’s problems and often doesn’t return his calls. Some friends find Allen’s stance callous and believe that Bryan deserves support, just as Allen received a second chance in his own life.
“Tim wants nothing to do with Zach and his problems. But he’ll take Zach’s calls occasionally and say he’ll get back to him, but doesn’t.”
“To some friends, it seems callous. They feel Zach deserves a break just like Tim did.”
Tim Allen faced his own legal issues in the past, including a two-year prison sentence for drug-related charges, but he has been sober for over 25 years. While he acknowledges that Bryan is going through a difficult time, Allen has chosen to step aside and let Bryan deal with his own challenges.
Bryan’s troubles include legal issues related to domestic violence and allegations of bilking investors out of money in a technology startup scheme. Despite their on-screen father-son relationship, Allen has chosen not to get involved in Bryan’s legal problems.
As for Bryan, he has pleaded guilty to felony assault constituting domestic violence over an incident involving his ex-fiancée, Johnnie Cartwright. He received a sentence that includes supervised probation, a brief jail stay, and requirements for alcohol and substance abuse treatment.
The situation has strained the relationship between the two actors, and Allen has chosen not to offer support or intervention in Bryan’s ongoing legal troubles.
