Leonardo DiCaprio Hit With Federal Lawsuit Over Instagram Video

Leonardi DiCaprio is undoubtedly one of the biggest actors in the world right now, as many people revere him for his incredible performances in movies. That being said, he isn’t immune to getting sued and now the actor has been hit with a federal lawsuit over an Instagram video.

Leonardo DiCaprio is facing a federal lawsuit over a video he posted on his social media account, according to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com.

The suit has been filed by Global Weather Productions LLC, alleging that they own the copyright to a video created by Michael Brandon Clement, which showed the damage caused by Hurricane Dorian to the Abaco islands in the Bahamas.

The company claims that Leonardo DiCaprio took the video they own and posted it on his Instagram account, which boasts over 61 million followers. Global Weather Productions asserts that the actor did not seek permission or pay a licensing fee for the video’s use. The video in question was posted by DiCaprio on September 4, 2019, as the lawsuit alleged infringement.

”Plaintiff has invested significant time and money in building Plaintiff’s video portfolio. The Infringement is an exact copy of Plaintiff’s original video recording that was directly copied and displayed by [DiCaprio] on the Account. [DiCaprio] takes an active and pervasive role in the content posted on his Account, including, but not limited to copying, posting, selecting, commenting on, and/or displaying video recordings including but not limited to Plaintiff’s Video.”

To add to that, Global Weather Productions claims that DiCaprio’s use of their video led to a loss in its value, and they believe the actor benefited financially from its use. As a result, the lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for the alleged copyright infringement.

DiCaprio is not the only celebrity facing legal action over their Instagram posts. His former girlfriend, Gigi Hadid, was sued in August in a separate case related to her social media activity. We will keep you updated on this ongoing legal case.
