British boxing sensation David Bankole Adeleye recently made his way to Riyadh for a big showdown, but he also got a chance to rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in the entertainment world, including the rap legend Eminem.
Big D spilled the beans to TalkSport about his fortunate seating arrangement, which led to an unexpected encounter with Eminem at a gala dinner the night before the Battle of the Baddest.
“At my table, I was sitting alongside my commercial agent, I had Amir Khan on my left, and I had Eminem sitting across from me,” Adeleye recounted. “They told me Eminem was on my table, and they’d done the seating arrangements so we would be across from each other, and I was like ‘What?!'”
The young boxer went on to share his excitement about the unique experience, mentioning how he even got to bond with Eminem over a PSP boxing game. “There’s a boxing game that’s coming out on PSP, and I was playing it with him. It was humbling,” Adeleye said. “He was giving me words of encouragement the day before the fight, and can you imagine what it was like? There were big musicians there who I like listening to, giving me words of encouragement.”
Adeleye also had the chance to exchange words with Brazilian football legend Ronaldo, or “R9” as he’s often called. “I spoke to Ronaldo, R9, and after the photo, he was like ‘good luck tomorrow.’ I was like ‘He knows I’m fighting tomorrow, there’s no way,’ it was humbling and an experience I took in.”
While the fight against Fabio Wardley may not have gone Adeleye’s way, as it was stopped by the referee in the seventh round, allowing Wardley to retain his British and Commonwealth belts, at least Big D has some incredible memories to cherish from his star-studded encounter with Eminem and other legendary figures.
