Kayti Edwards, a former flame of “Friends” star Matthew Perry, is suggesting that the beloved actor may have struggled with a relapse in the lead-up to his tragic passing.
“I know Matthew, and I know he wouldn’t have just drowned,” Edwards boldly claimed in an interview with the UK Sun, published recently. She went on to speculate, “I think he might have taken pills in the week leading up to this.”
Edwards, a former model, disclosed that she had a brief dalliance with Perry in 2006 after meeting at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. She alleged that their connection persisted even after their romantic involvement ended, with her working as his assistant in 2011.
On October 28th, Perry was discovered lifeless in a jacuzzi at his Los Angeles residence, with the cause of death initially attributed to drowning. He was just 54 years old.
While initial toxicology reports did not detect fentanyl or meth in his system, Edwards remains skeptical about the circumstances surrounding his demise. “Things aren’t adding up,” she declared.
“They said there were no prescription painkillers at the scene, which doesn’t surprise me because he didn’t leave drugs lying around,” Edwards noted. As previously reported, no illegal drugs were found on Perry’s property, though a few prescription medications were present.
According to Edwards, Perry’s final Instagram post hinted at a possible relapse. The post, a mere five days before his passing, featured Perry in the jacuzzi with the caption, “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”
Edwards asserted that Perry’s use of “Mattman” was a red flag, suggesting that it was a persona he adopted while under the influence of drugs. “That Mattman thing was not something he did when he was sober. Mattman would come out when he was not sober and he felt kind of invincible,” she claimed.
Edwards further alleged that Perry had a penchant for being near water when using substances, recounting a past incident in which a neighbor reportedly found him “naked and high in his [neighbor’s] swimming pool.”
She emphasized that Perry was typically alone during these episodes. A representative for Perry has not responded to requests for comment from Page Six.
Edwards had previously claimed to have been a delivery driver for Perry during the height of his addiction in 2011, even while she was five months pregnant. She alleged that she would pick up “cocaine, heroin, and crack” for the actor, with Perry reassuring her that no one would pull over a pregnant woman.
Perry’s candid memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” documented his long and tumultuous battle with drug and alcohol addiction. In it, he bared the raw truth of his struggles, saying, “Not only do I have the disease, but I also have it bad. I have it as bad as you can have it, in fact. It’s back-to-the-wall time all the time. It’s going to kill me…”
The beloved actor was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills on November 8th, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by his fans.
