The Simpsons remains one of the most important shows in the history of television as well as pop culture in general. One of the longstanding running gas in the show would feature Homer strangling his son Bart. It was recently suggested that the show would do away with the strangling for good. However, it appears that is not the case at all now.
“The Simpsons” made headlines with its recent decision to put an end to Homer’s iconic habit of strangling his son, Bart. This even led to the show getting kudos from a prominent child abuse prevention organization.
While speaking to PEOPLE, the show’s co-creator James L. Brooks put all rumors to rest, as he made it clear that Homer will continue to strangle his son Bart in future episodes.
“Nothing’s getting tamed. Nothing, nothing, nothing … He’ll continue to be strangled — [if] you want to use that awful term for it. He’ll continue to be loved by his father in a specific way.”
‘The Simpsons itself hinted at a potential deviation from Homer’s peculiar form of discipline in a recent episode titled “McMansion & Wife,” where Homer claimed that he is done strangling Bart.
“See, Marge, strangling the boy has paid off. Just kidding. I don’t do that anymore. Times have changed.”
Times have changed but as feel ‘The Simpsons’ still wants to remain in the past as far as this running gag is concerned. Regardless, the show will go on no matter what and that’s never changing.
What do you think of ‘The Simpsons’ not doing away with the strangling gag? Do you feel it should have stopped? Sound off in the comments!
