Dwayne Johnson is a man of many endeavors, from his Hollywood acting career to overseeing his businesses, which include Teremana and Seven Bucks Productions, as well as his involvement with the XFL. Although The Rock has backed off of the idea several times, the idea of running for President of the United States of America is still a real possibility for The Great One.
Although there may be challenges with The Rock running for POTUS, it is not improbable to consider. The shoo-in WWE Hall of Famer has received interest to run for the highest office in the land from multiple political parties.
During an interview on Trevor Noah’s What Now podcast, the former WWE Champion disclosed that several political parties have approached him about a potential run for the office of President of the United States. Speculation about The Rock’s presidential aspirations has persisted for years, with a 2021 poll indicating a 46% approval rating for him.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Rock was asked about his approval rating and whether he would entertain the idea of running for President. Dwayne Johnson admitted that a US Presidential run has been talked about for years, and he knows that Americans would support him, and it blows him away because he was once wrestling at flea markets for $40.
“It’s crazy, and it’s wild. This run for President talk has kind of been in the ether for the past couple of years. And it just never stops being surreal. It was incredible. It came from DC. We sat down. The poll was something like almost 50% of Americans would support me running for President. It was just crazy. So, and by the way, thank you. But it’s like, dude, we’ve talked about this. It’s like not too long ago. Years ago, I was wrestling in flea markets for 40 bucks per match, hoping that, ‘Hey, I just want a free corn dog at the end of the night.’ And now here we are, years later, I’m sitting with you, and this talk has come up, and it’s real. And I’m so grateful. So if you are of the almost 50%, I thank you tequila on me, by the way, I appreciate it.”
The Rock went on to say that he’s proud of his daughters, and he was always gone during his pro wrestling days. He knows what it is like to have a job that takes him away from his family, and they understand that as well. Right now, being around for them is very important for him.
“I think down the road for sure. I’ve said this before: I’m a proud girl, dad. I have a 22-year-old, I have a seven, and I have a five. So they’re all age ranges. And my 22-year-old, I like to say we grew up together, and at that time, I was wrestling full time, 230 dates, 200 wrestling matches a year. So, I was always gone. And I know what that’s like to have an occupation that takes me away from being a daddy. And this time around, with my seven and my five-year-old, I want to be a daddy. And that’s the most important thing to me. So be around, be there, be there. I want to be around.”
We will have to see what the future holds for The Rock. At this point, what’s to come in the next US Presidential election is a big discussion point, and there are a couple options. If anything, The Rock would certainly shake things up if he threw his hat in the race.
The Rock didn’t shut down the idea of running for US President. He seemed appreciative that he is even in the conversation. The big question remains whether the United States population would vote for him enough where he could win with the Electoral College in his favor on that big board during election night.
