Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ broke several records as it earned an astounding $1.4 billion at the Box Office. Before its release, rumors and reports suggested that caused a shortage of pink paint in the market. Now the Production Designer decided to hit back at such reports.
The film became a notable presence in pop culture, particularly for its vibrant aesthetic. Early rumors suggested that the film’s extensive use of practical pink set pieces caused a shortage of pink paint in the market.
While speaking to Yahoo! Entertainment, production designer Sarah Greenwood addressed rumors that ‘Barbie’ caused a shortage of pink paint in the world. Greenwood made it clear that there was no truth to this whatsoever.
”Yes, we found this color after lots of investigation into the perfect pink. So we go to Rosco, this amazing film company that makes this beautiful pigment … but of course, nobody was using pink until we came along. And so therefore, there wasn’t enough pink paint. We said, ‘Oh, we want 200 liters of your pure pigment.’… And then everybody pulled together and we found pink paint in every sort of backyard workshop. We did get there in the end. But no, we didn’t cause the world to run out of pink paint. There wasn’t enough in the first place.”
Margot Robbie recently made it clear that there won’t be any sequel to ‘Barbie’ anytime soon, if at all. Regardless, Margot Robbie has moved on to other projects and that’s what she cares about.
