Johnny Depp is undoubtedly one of the most famous actors in the world right now, but his reputation took a swan dive for a while due to his controversial lawsuit against Amber Heard. Thankfully, things are much better for Depp now as he is now being eyed for a leading role in an upcoming film about Satan.
Johnny Depp is potentially gearing up to take on the role of Satan in the new movie “Carnival at the End of Days,” according to filmmaker Terry Gilliam. Gilliam, known for directing Depp in “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” (1998) and “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” (2009), revealed his plans in an interview with Variety at the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The movie’s plot revolves around a divine apocalypse where God decides to eradicate humanity, and the only character seeking to save them is Satan, played by Johnny Depp. Gilliam shared a brief overview, stating that God’s motivation for wiping out mankind is due to them “messing up his beautiful garden Earth.” On the other hand, Satan aims to prevent the destruction as it would render him jobless—an eternal being living without purpose.
“God wipes out humanity and the only character who wants to save them is Satan, and Johnny Depp plays Satan.
God character’s motivation for bringing about the demise of mankind is for f—*** up his beautiful garden Earth. Meanwhile, Satan resolves to stop the destruction because without humanity he’s lost his job and he’s an eternal character and so to live without a job is terrible.
So he finds some young people and he tries to convince God that these young people are the new Adam and Eve. God still gets to wipe out humanity. It’s a comedy.”
Gilliam’s cinematic journey, spanning from the unfinished “Don Quixote” adaptation to the release of “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,” involves collaborations with notable talents like Depp and Jonathan Pryce. We will have to wait and see whether Johnny Depp will end up portraying Satan in the upcoming comedy film.
