Fans are buzzing with anticipation for Spider-Man 4, and speculation is swirling about whether Andrew Garfield will return as Peter Parker, a.k.a. “Peter #3.”
During an interview on The Happy Sad Confused podcast, hosted by Josh Horowitz, Garfield was asked about a potential reunion with Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire. While he didn’t directly confirm anything, his response left the door wide open for hopeful fans.
“Yeah, of course, your assumption is not unfounded,” Garfield said with a knowing smirk. “If I was in your position, I can imagine going, ‘Yeah, he’s probably had some conversations,’ too, yeah.” While Garfield played coy, it’s clear there are ongoing talks and possibilities, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
Garfield continued to play along when pressed further about his involvement in future Spider-Man projects. He acknowledged, “I also understand in your position you’re going to be wondering, because it was such a success, that you’d go, ‘Well, they must be talking about it.’”
However, in typical Garfield fashion, he kept things vague, joking, “This feels a little tantamount to illegal, kind of insider trading in some kind of way. No matter what I say, I could be held liable for that, and I’m going to decline to comment.”
With all the rumors surrounding Spider-Man 4, fans are hopeful that Garfield could make another cameo, especially with theories about a multiverse storyline involving symbiotes circulating online. If Marvel Studios and Sony lean into the multiverse concept, bringing back Garfield and Maguire would certainly please fans. However, if the film focuses more on street-level action, it may be tougher to fit them into the plot. But, as we’ve seen in the superhero world, fan demand often influences the final product.
Reflecting on his return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield previously shared how important it was for him to return to the role under the right circumstances. The film’s box office success and the emotional depth of his character’s journey made the experience worthwhile. During the Red Sea Festival last year, Garfield discussed his deep connection to Spider-Man, saying, “I’ve loved Spider-Man since I was three years old… I need to nourish that child who is out there watching.”
Garfield’s love for the role and his involvement in shaping the script for No Way Home helped cement Peter #3’s return as one of the film’s highlights. His heartfelt performance gave fans the closure they needed, but it also left many wondering if there’s more in store for his version of Spider-Man.
Every time Andrew Garfield addresses the possibility of returning, he masterfully keeps fans guessing, much like he did before the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Whether or not he officially joins Spider-Man 4, the buzz surrounding his possible return has become part of the excitement.
