Fans of Succession hoping for more Kendall Roy on their screens might be in for disappointment, as Jeremy Strong has revealed why he has no plans to reprise his iconic role in a spinoff series. In an interview with The Times of London, Strong opened up about the emotional toll the character took on him, calling the experience both a “gift” and a “struggle” over the show’s seven-year run.
“That show was an incalculable gift. The material was a banquet. So I miss that,” Strong said, reflecting on the critically acclaimed HBO drama. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the actor, who dove deep into his method acting approach to portray the troubled Kendall Roy. “Kendall’s struggle was difficult to carry for seven years. And there’s just so much more I want to do. I sometimes lost touch with joy.”
Strong, known for his intense dedication to the craft, had previously raised concern among his Succession co-stars for how immersed he became in Kendall’s emotional turmoil. While that commitment earned him praise and even an Emmy Award, it also contributed to his decision to leave the role behind.
When asked directly about the possibility of doing a Kendall Roy spinoff series, Strong made it clear that he’s ready to move on: “It’s not something I have any wish to do any longer. I’m aware it is one of the main chapters of my life, but I don’t miss it.”
Strong’s method acting had been a topic of discussion among his co-stars, including Brian Cox, who once expressed concern for how deeply Strong inhabited the troubled character. This intensity, while adding depth to his performance, also seems to have solidified his desire to explore new roles.
