James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, set for release in July 2025, is progressing swiftly through post-production.
Gunn recently confirmed on Threads that the movie already has an assembly cut, addressing online speculation about the film’s status. This early milestone might surprise fans familiar with blockbuster productions, which often take longer to wrap up, but Gunn’s highly organized approach allows for streamlined production and post-production processes.
An assembly cut, as fans may recall from discussions about Zack Snyder’s Justice League, is a preliminary version of a film where all scenes are arranged in order, giving the director a sense of pacing and narrative structure. Although this version lacks final touches such as visual effects, music, and color correction, it’s a crucial step in the editing process.
Superman: Legacy stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The film is expected to explore a version of Superman who is settled into his role as Earth’s protector, surrounded by a network of allies. The movie boasts a stellar cast that includes Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, and more.
Gunn has also brought in familiar collaborators from his previous projects, including cinematographer Henry Braham (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) and costume designer Judianna Makovsky (Avengers: Endgame). The movie is shaping up to be a fresh take on the Superman mythology, with high anticipation for its release on July 11, 2025.
