James Franco confirmed that his once-close friendship with Seth Rogen has come to an end, marking the conclusion of a two-decade-long partnership.
During an interview with Variety to promote his new film “Hey Joe,” Franco shared that despite his efforts to reconnect, Rogen has distanced himself.
“I haven’t talked to Seth. I love Seth, we had 20 great years together, but I guess it’s over,” Franco said, adding, “And not for lack of trying. I’ve told him how much he’s meant to me.”
The pair, known for their collaborations on films like Pineapple Express and The Interview, drifted apart following misconduct allegations against Franco in 2018. Franco was accused by several women, including former students of his acting school, of using his position to engage in inappropriate behavior. A 2021 lawsuit against Franco resulted in a $2.2 million settlement.
Rogen, speaking to the Sunday Times that same year, revealed he no longer intended to work with Franco, “I despise abuse and harassment and would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it, or knowingly put someone in a situation where they were around someone like that.”
Rogen emphasized that his decision to distance himself from Franco was rooted in his values and the need to ensure safe working environments.
During his interview with Variety, Franco reflected on his four-year break from acting, stating that the time away allowed him to focus on personal growth. Whatever had been going on with me before, I had to change my whole way of life,” he explained. Franco also said he felt “grateful” for the opportunity to work on himself during his absence, using the time to rebuild and reflect.
With Franco stepping back into the spotlight, starting with his role in Me, You, the actor appears to be navigating a complicated return to the industry. Despite the public rift with Rogen, Franco insists he values their past friendship, even if the two won’t be reconnecting anytime soon.
