“Free Durk Banks.”
The fan’s protest quickly became a topic of debate after a post featuring the moment hit Instagram, generating a wave of mixed reactions. Some fans supported the protester’s efforts, while others were critical of showing public support amid such serious allegations. The news of Lil Durk’s arrest prompted a response from Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who acknowledged Durk’s efforts to uplift his community, despite the ongoing legal troubles.
“Look, I don’t know all the circumstances and details around these accusations,” Johnson said during a press conference. “What I do know, though, is that Lil Durk’s mission to build financial literacy for children across the city and make other critical investments shows where his heart has been. There’s no secret to the trauma he grew up in and how he’s worked to turn that trauma into opportunities for others.”
The situation has sparked different responses from fans and industry insiders. Joe Budden recently weighed in on his podcast, comparing Lil Durk’s path to Chief Keef. Budden highlighted how, despite similar backgrounds, the two Chicago rappers now have very different trajectories—with Durk facing legal troubles while Chief Keef has managed to stay out of trouble.
Meanwhile, the estate of FBG Duck also released a statement in light of Lil Durk’s arrest. The estate, which has been involved in a lawsuit alleging that Durk was behind the hit on FBG Duck, expressed that they feel “one step closer to justice” following the rapper’s arrest. However, with no trial yet, it’s still too early to draw any firm conclusions.
