50 Cent recently opened up about how little he was paid while working on the hit Starz series Power. Speaking at UnitedMasters’ SelectConNYC event with Steve Stoute, the rapper-turned-executive producer shared that despite being one of the driving forces behind the show’s success, he was making far less than fans might expect.
“In the Power series, I was receiving $17,000 to be an executive producer, to be a reoccurring character, to be almost a music supervisor, to create the theme song for the show,” 50 Cent said. “$17,000 per episode — I get paid more to go to the nightclub and wave.”
Despite the modest pay, 50 Cent explained that he stayed committed to the project because he believed in it. “I just wanted them [Starz] to get pregnant with the idea that we have to have this baby,” he added. “I wanted to make the show. No one in our culture has made any television and produced what they wanted to make.”
Power went on to become one of Starz’s most successful shows, spawning several spin-offs, including Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force. The show’s success highlights 50 Cent’s ability to see the bigger picture, even when the initial paycheck didn’t match the effort
Fans took to Instagram to applaud the rapper’s dedication when UnitedMasters shared his comments. One user wrote, “SOMETIMES it makes sense when it doesn’t make cents,” while another added, “The things we do, when you believe in yourself!!! They didn’t believe!”
50 Cent’s passion for producing hasn’t slowed down. After wrapping up the Power universe, he’s diving into new ventures, including a Netflix documentary focusing on allegations against Diddy, who was recently charged with sex trafficking and racketeering. Diddy has since pleaded not guilty, and the case is still unfolding.
With 50 Cent’s relentless work ethic and vision, fans can expect more groundbreaking content from him in the future.
