Liam Payne’s untimely passing has placed his highly anticipated Netflix series, Building the Band, on hold. According to a source from The US Sun, Netflix is prioritizing sensitivity toward Payne’s family before deciding when the show will air.

“Netflix will sit down with Liam’s family when the time is right to speak about the series and when it could be released,” the source shared. “There is no rush or pressure to release the series. It would simply be a beautiful tribute to Liam and capture him at his best in the months before his death.”

Payne had taken on the role of mentor for the UK-based competition series, alongside Nicole Scherzinger, Kelly Rowland, and AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys, who served as the host. The show wrapped filming in August at Aviva Studios in Manchester.

Despite the delay, the source confirmed that the series is not canceled: “The show has definitely not been shelved.” Reps for Netflix have yet to comment.

Tragic Details Surrounding Payne’s Death

Liam Payne passed away on October 16 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after reportedly falling from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. The 31-year-old One Direction star had been spotted in the hotel lobby earlier, where an eyewitness claimed he had “passed out” shortly before the fatal incident.

A partial autopsy later revealed the presence of cocaine, crack, and benzodiazepines in Payne’s system at the time of his death.

Nicole Scherzinger’s Heartbreaking Final Messages

Nicole Scherzinger, who mentored Payne on The X Factor UK in 2011, was one of the last people to be in contact with him. According to composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, Scherzinger had been texting with Payne the day of his passing.

“I suppose something that hasn’t been said, and I suppose I could say, is that of course she mentored Liam from One Direction,” Webber told Billboard while discussing Scherzinger’s Broadway debut in Sunset Blvd. “On the Wednesday when he died, she was still texting him that day.”

A Tribute to a Talent Gone Too Soon

Building the Band is expected to highlight Payne’s contributions as a mentor, capturing his passion and dedication in his final months. While there is no set release date, Netflix is committed to ensuring the series honors Payne’s legacy in a meaningful way.
