After four weeks in theaters, Joker: Folie à Deux—the musical sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga—has reached $201.1 million worldwide. While crossing the $200 million mark is a milestone, the film’s performance has fallen short of expectations, especially compared to the original Joker’s billion-dollar success in 2019.

Domestically, Joker 2 earned an additional $600,000 this weekend, bringing its domestic total to $57.8 million. However, the Warner Bros. release suffered steep declines, dropping 72% from its third weekend after theaters reduced its screen count from 4,102 to just 1,243. Its $37.6 million opening weekend was notably lower than box office disappointments like Morbius ($39 million), The Marvels ($46 million), and The Flash ($55 million).

Adding to the film’s struggles, Joker 2 posted one of the steepest second-weekend drops ever for a comic book film, plunging 81% on October 11. For comparison, the R-rated Deadpool & Wolverine raked in $211.4 million domestically in its opening weekend—surpassing Joker 2’s entire global earnings in just three days.

The underwhelming box office performance has seen Joker 2 slip to 11th place in the weekend rankings, earning less than smaller releases like Anora ($867,000) and Piece by Piece ($720,000). Meanwhile, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice continues to outpace the sequel, adding $3.2 million to its domestic tally of $288.7 million after 52 days in theaters.

This weekend, Venom: The Last Dance claimed the top spot with $51 million, while Smile 2 secured second place with $9.4 million. Focus Features’ Conclave opened in third place, grossing $6.5 million.

Though its theatrical run is winding down, fans will soon have the opportunity to watch Joker: Folie à Deux at home. The film will debut on digital platforms just before Halloween, with 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD releases scheduled for December 17.
