A major leak has surfaced just ahead of the rumored reveal for the Nintendo Switch 2, suggesting that Elden Ring, one of 2022’s biggest titles, will be ported to the next-gen Nintendo console. According to insider reports, the highly-anticipated Switch 2 could be announced as early as October 28 or 29, along with several major first-party titles.

Nintendo leaker Nash Weedle claims that Bandai Namco and FromSoftware are bringing a “Definitive Edition” of Elden Ring to all platforms, with a version also planned for the Nintendo Switch 2. However, the leaker notes that the port is being handled by Virtuos, a well-known studio that specializes in bringing games to other platforms, rather than FromSoftware itself.

The report suggests that the game’s port could be released by the end of 2025, offering Switch users the opportunity to experience the sprawling, critically acclaimed world of Elden Ring.

While first-party titles like a new 3D Mario and Mario Kart are expected to be announced at the Switch 2’s reveal, this Elden Ring leak adds to speculation about third-party support for Nintendo’s new console. Nintendo fans know that the success of the current Switch has largely hinged on its first-party library, with games like Zelda, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, and Splatoon leading the charge.

However, third-party games like Elden Ring coming to the Switch 2 could mark an effort by Nintendo to diversify its game library from the outset, creating more momentum with the console’s launch. While many third-party games arrived later in the original Switch’s lifecycle, Nintendo may aim to line up several big releases closer to launch this time around.

It’s important to take this report with a grain of salt, as Nash Weedle, while known for reliable leaks, is still building a reputation within the gaming industry. So far, neither Nintendo, FromSoftware, Bandai Namco, nor Virtuos has commented on the rumor — a move that’s not unusual given the tightly controlled nature of pre-launch announcements.

If true, Elden Ring on the Switch 2 would be a game-changer, offering players access to one of the most celebrated games of the last decade. A portable version of the sprawling open-world RPG would mark a significant achievement, especially if Virtuos can deliver a high-quality port.

With the Switch 2 announcement seemingly imminent, gamers won’t have to wait long to find out whether these rumors are true.
