Nick Cannon is looking back with raw honesty on his eight-year marriage to pop icon Mariah Carey, revealing insecurities that plagued him during their time together.
In the latest episode of the Ray Daniels Presents podcast, Cannon, 44, reflected on his relationship with the chart-topping diva, calling it a life-changing experience that often left him questioning his own identity.
“I got married in my 20s … to the biggest star in the world,” Cannon said, acknowledging how their marriage from 2008 to 2016 put him in a unique spotlight. “Mariah’s fame was on a different stratosphere,” the Masked Singer host admitted, hinting at how overwhelming it felt being in the shadow of such an iconic figure.
He revealed how self-doubt crept in during their marriage, especially in private moments. “I would lay up at night thinking, like, ‘Is this who I am? Am I Mariah’s man? Is that what my life is supposed to be?’” Cannon shared, underscoring the emotional toll of constantly being viewed as Mr. Mariah Carey.
Those insecurities intensified after the couple welcomed their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, now 13, in 2011. Cannon described the challenges of his new role as a father while navigating the family dynamics.
“I’m carrying a purse, the diaper bag and, you know, I’m standing on the corner like, ‘Wait,’” the All That alum recalled with a laugh, giving insight into the shift in the couple’s “hierarchy” during that time.
Though their marriage ended in 2016, Cannon’s comments reflect the personal journey he went through trying to balance love, fatherhood, and fame under the glare of the public eye.
