Ian Somerhalder Hints at Permanent Retirement from Acting

Ian Somerhalder, known for his iconic roles in The Vampire Diaries and V Wars, has hit pause on his acting career—possibly for good.

During a recent appearance at the Environmental Media Association Awards Gala, Somerhalder revealed he’s fully immersed in farm life with his wife, actress Nikki Reed, and their two children, saying his entertainment career is “in the rearview mirror.”

“I’m soaking up every inch of this laid-back farm life,” Ian shared, emphasizing how much he values spending time with his young family.

While Somerhalder did hint that his days in front of the camera might be over, he also disclosed that he recently regained the rights to V Wars, the sci-fi series he and Reed starred in together in 2019. However, he admitted he’s not sure if or how the show will make a comeback. “We’re building three companies at the same time, raising kids—it’s a lot right now,” he told PEOPLE, indicating that reviving the series isn’t high on their list of priorities.

Both Ian and Nikki have been vocal about stepping away from the spotlight. Earlier this year, Ian reflected on leaving Hollywood behind, expressing how little he misses the lifestyle. Nikki echoed those sentiments to E! News, sharing that being present for their children’s growth is what matters most to them.

While fans may not see Ian onscreen again anytime soon, it’s clear that he’s found fulfillment in his family and entrepreneurial ventures.
