A Los Angeles Dodgers fan’s celebration turned horrifying late Wednesday night after an attempt to light a firework in downtown L.A. left him with severe hand injuries.
The terrifying incident occurred just minutes after the Dodgers clinched victory against the Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series. Footage of the accident, which is graphic, shows the shocking moment the firework detonated in the fan’s hand.
In the video, the man – dressed in a Clayton Kershaw “King” No. 22 jersey – stands in the middle of a crosswalk, holding the firework when it suddenly explodes, creating a fireball that engulfs him. Moments later, he’s seen stumbling from the smoke, visibly dazed and with bloody hands. Tragically, one of his hands appeared to have several fingers missing.
As bystanders rushed to assist, they pleaded for someone to call 911. Shortly after, Los Angeles Fire Department responders arrived at around 2:30 AM Thursday.
A spokesperson tells TMZ Sports that the 25-year-old man was “conscious and alert” despite suffering “bilateral hand wounds.” Emergency personnel quickly applied tourniquets before transporting him to a nearby hospital. While his injuries are serious, officials report they are not life-threatening.
This tragic incident casts a dark shadow over the Dodgers’ victory celebrations and serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with fireworks.
