Federal prosecutors are pushing back on Diddy’s allegations that they leaked a video showing him assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, stating in a new court motion that they did not release the footage to CNN and only obtained it after the news channel made it public.
According to court documents, prosecutors argue that Diddy’s claim is “false,” noting they didn’t have the video when CNN released it on May 17.
The video reportedly vanished from the hotel’s server early in the federal investigation and resurfaced only when CNN aired it. Prosecutors say they ultimately downloaded it from CNN’s website but still don’t possess the original copy.
In a previous filing, Diddy’s legal team pointed fingers at Department of Homeland Security agents, suggesting they might have leaked the video, as DHS sources have been quoted in various stories about his case. However, federal prosecutors argue that numerous people could have had access to the footage, including hotel staff, the contracted security team, and members of Diddy’s own staff, making an internal leak more likely.
Prosecutors also contend there’s no need for an evidentiary hearing regarding the alleged leak, insisting they aren’t responsible for its release.
Meanwhile, Diddy remains in federal detention in Brooklyn, facing serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution, along with multiple civil suits.
