Tom Cruise is revving up for another sequel! The 62-year-old superstar is reportedly in talks to bring Days of Thunder back to life, reprising his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle, as first reported by Deadline.
The original film, directed by the late Tony Scott, hit theaters in 1990, telling the story of Trickle, a fearless rookie driver battling personal and professional hurdles in his quest for NASCAR glory.
While plot details and creative contributors for the sequel remain under wraps, fans are already excited about the potential return. Days of Thunder holds a special place in Cruise’s filmography—not only as a fan-favorite role but as the movie where he first met Nicole Kidman, who would later become his wife for 11 years. The pair’s chemistry in Days of Thunder led to two more collaborations on screen.
Cruise has a solid track record with sequels, as evidenced by the massive success of Top Gun: Maverick, which raked in a staggering $1.496 billion worldwide in 2022. And, of course, his Mission Impossible franchise has grossed over $4 billion globally, solidifying Cruise as a box-office heavyweight.
In addition to these upcoming projects, Cruise is also working on a new movie with Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu—proving he has no plans of slowing down.
