Alan Rachins, the talented actor best known for his roles on the classic shows L.A. Law and Dharma & Greg, has sadly passed away at the age of 82.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rachins died peacefully in his sleep from heart failure early Saturday morning, with his wife, actress Joanna Frank, by his side.

Rachins’ career spanned decades, starting in the mid-1970s. He found his big break in 1986, when he was cast as Douglas Brackman, Jr. on the hit legal drama L.A. Law, created by his brother, famed producer Steven Bochco.

Rachins became a fan favorite, appearing in 171 episodes over the show’s eight-season run, earning him both Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. In the role, he acted alongside his wife, Joanna Frank, as they portrayed a perpetually clashing, estranged couple.

In addition to L.A. Law, Rachins appeared in the controversial 1995 film Showgirls and later found sitcom success on Dharma & Greg, where he played Larry Finkelstein for five seasons. His extensive credits include appearances on shows like General Hospital, Young Sheldon, Grey’s Anatomy, and even Rugrats, showcasing his versatility across genres.

Beyond acting, Rachins also had several writing credits, including an episode of the ’80s TV show The Fall Guy, which inspired the recent Ryan Gosling film of the same name.

Rachins is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joanna, and their son, Robert. His legacy in television and film will be fondly remembered by fans worldwide.
