Russell Brand’s troubling past has come under renewed scrutiny as London’s Metropolitan Police have requested that the Crown Prosecution Service consider charging the actor and comedian in connection with sexual assault, rape, and emotional abuse allegations from four women. This request follows a 2023 exposé by the Sunday Times, which brought to light accusations dating from 2006 to 2013.
Police sources told The Guardian on Saturday that detectives had interviewed “a man in his 40s” on three separate occasions as part of their investigation. The file containing evidence collected by investigators has now been submitted to the CPS, marking a pivotal step toward potential charges.
One of Brand’s accusers, known only as Nadia, alleges a particularly harrowing incident in 2012 when she claims she was raped by Brand at his Los Angeles home. Nadia, who was in her thirties at the time, recalled Brand’s intimidating demeanor and his refusal to stop despite her protests, saying, “He’s a lot taller than me. And he has that glazed look in his eye again. And I can’t move. And I told him, ‘Get off, get off.’” She also alleged that Brand did not wear a condom during the assault.
At the time, Brand was married to pop star Katy Perry, from 2010 to 2012. A representative for the actor has not yet responded to requests for comment.
With the CPS now involved, the investigation has reached a critical juncture, raising questions about potential outcomes for both Brand and his accusers. The case is likely to continue drawing public attention, as discussions around accountability in the entertainment industry remain in the spotlight.
