Selena Gomez is not staying silent about her health or her body. The Only Murders in the Building star recently addressed online body-shaming after her appearance at the premiere of Emilia Pérez during the American French Film Festival in Los Angeles on October 29.

Gomez stunned in a black, long-sleeve cocktail dress, but after posing with her hand on her stomach, some TikTok users speculated that she was self-conscious about her body.

In response, Gomez quickly hit back, commenting on the now-deleted post, “This makes me sick.” She went on to explain that she suffers from SEBO, or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, a condition that can cause bloating, abdominal pain, and weight changes. “I have SEBO in my small intestine. It flares up,” she clarified, shedding light on the struggles she faces with her health.

The singer and actress has always been candid about her health challenges. In addition to SEBO, Gomez has been open about her lupus diagnosis, which led to a kidney transplant in 2017. Responding to the body-shaming comments, she added, “I don’t care that I don’t look like a stick figure. I don’t have that body. End of story.” Gomez continued, “No, I am NOT a victim. I’m just human.”

In September, Gomez also revealed that due to her medical conditions, she cannot carry children—a reality she said she had to grieve. “I unfortunately … have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy,” she told Vanity Fair, sharing how deeply her health has affected her life.

Selena Gomez’s response serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and understanding, especially regarding health issues that aren’t always visible.
