The first day of Conor McGregor’s civil assault trial in Dublin has brought forward disturbing allegations of rape from the plaintiff, who claims she endured violent treatment at the hands of the former UFC champion.
According to reports from The Irish Mirror’s Paul Healy, the plaintiff, who remains unnamed, alleges that McGregor lured her to a residence and assaulted her, leaving her with multiple bruises and emotional trauma.
During Tuesday’s opening statements, lawyer John Gordon SC presented details of the case, describing how the plaintiff, a hairdresser from Dublin, was allegedly in an intoxicated state from both alcohol and cocaine when she encountered McGregor at a Christmas party. Gordon explained that the plaintiff, accompanied by a friend, entered a vehicle with McGregor, under the impression that they were heading to another gathering. Instead, they reportedly ended up at the residence of co-defendant James Lawrence.
It was at Lawrence’s property where the plaintiff claims McGregor allegedly “pinned down” and assaulted her, leaving her “completely terrified” with visible bruising and scratches. Gordon detailed that the plaintiff allegedly engaged in sexual acts with both McGregor and Lawrence, despite having “no recollection” of the events.
In a heartbreaking account, the plaintiff’s mother recalled her daughter being in severe distress the following day. “An absolute wreck,” the mother described her as “constantly weeping, shivering, in pain, and unable to get comfortable.”
The court also heard from key witness Dr. Daniel Kane, a gynecologist from Rotunda Hospital, who testified about his examination of the plaintiff following the incident. Dr. Kane confirmed observing multiple bruises on the plaintiff’s body and described her as “shaking and crying” throughout the process. His findings, he noted, were “consistent with the outline of events as described” by the plaintiff’s legal team. Additionally, he mentioned the plaintiff’s struggles with memory, but noted her recounting fear for her life during the alleged incident.
As the day wrapped up, the plaintiff took the stand herself, testifying to many of the claims introduced by her lawyer. She recalled expressing discomfort to McGregor during his alleged advances, adding that “he wasn’t taking no for an answer.”
The case is expected to last two weeks, with McGregor’s legal team maintaining his innocence. His spokesperson previously stated in 2021 that McGregor “categorically rejected” the claims and remains “confident that justice will prevail.”
