Gayle King is taking Megan Thee Stallion’s recent confession in stride. In 2022, Megan told Gayle during a CBS Mornings interview that she hadn’t been romantically involved with Tory Lanez, who was later convicted of shooting her in July 2020.

Now, with Megan’s recent Amazon Prime documentary Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, the rapper admits she lied about the relationship. Despite the twist, Gayle told TMZ on Tuesday that there’s no animosity on her end, and she’s still rooting for Megan.

Reflecting on the 2022 interview, Gayle explained that she had wanted to give Megan a platform to tell her side, as the rapper faced widespread skepticism about the incident. “Ironically, Megan still ended up lying to her,” Gayle noted, but she remains supportive of her decision to provide Megan with a chance to speak.

In her new documentary, Megan openly addresses her decision to lie during the CBS interview, clarifying that her past with Lanez doesn’t excuse his violent actions, which ultimately led to his 10-year prison sentence. The rapper makes it clear that, while she may have concealed the relationship, her testimony regarding the shooting remains steadfast.

After the documentary reveal, Ceasar McDowell, CEO of Unite the People—a nonprofit law firm representing Lanez—argued that Megan’s initial dishonesty undermines her credibility. “The fact that Megan lied about her sexual relationship with Tory obviously makes her an unreliable witness,” McDowell said. However, sources familiar with Lanez’s case noted that Megan had already disclosed the relationship during her court testimony, so this documentary confession is not entirely new.
